专题29 饮食文化

一、阅读单选

(2022·山东·邹城市第十一中学二模)Ancient Chinese people had hotpot as early as the Shang Dynasty (16th-11th century BC). At that time, people boiled foods and soups in bronze cauldrons (青铜鼎). The cauldron had two parts—one was the pot to cook foods in soup, the other part was a layer (层) or a space inside the cauldron to hold firewood (材火). But at that time, the cauldron was only for a single person to eat from.

During the Han Dynasty(202 BC—AD 220), people divided a pot into several parts to enjoy different flavors (口味).

During the Tang Dynasty (618-907), having hotpot was a trendy (流行的) thing. When people held family feasts (宴席), they would prepare hotpot. People of the Song Dynasty(960-1279) had hotpot to welcome winter.

Huoguo, the Chinese name for hotpot, was mentioned by Yuan Mei, poet and foodie in the Qing Dynasty(1644-1912), in a book about all kinds of food. At that time, hotpot was very popular. People put all kinds of meats and vegetables into pots made of different materials, such as copper (钢) and iron (铁).

Hotpot also became a famous royal (宫廷的) dish, called reguo (热锅). It’s said that Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty loved hotpot so much that he had it for almost every meal. He once held a big hotpot feast, inviting more than 5,000 people to enjoy about 1,550 hotpots.

(2022·河南南阳·模拟预测)When the idea of having some snack foods comes to mind, there’s a good chance that you will think of a bag of potato chips at once. Yes, potato chips are one of the most common snacks in our daily life. They are very popular among both children and adults. It’s very easy for us to eat a whole bag of chips in a few minutes. But have you ever stopped and thought about what exactly happens to your body when you eat potato chips, especially if you eat a big bag every day?

If you eat potato chips every day, you are likely to put on weight. A study shows that people who have potato chips as a part of their diets gain weight easily. It’s no wonder they are on the list of snacks that cause you to gain weight.

Studies have also shown that a high intake of sodium (钠的大量摄入) is connected with a higher risk of high blood pressure. One of the main components (成分) of potato chips is sodium. If you often eat potato chips, over time, you’re going to end up developing high blood pressure.

Besides, you could increase the risk of getting cancer. This seems a bit extreme (极端的). However, according to the American Cancer Society, potato chips have acrylamide, something that is created in high-starch (高淀粉) foods when they’re cooked in hot oil, over a fire, or in an oven. Studies on mice have shown that it has something to do with cancer.

Thinking about all these, what should you do then? Just take it easy. You needn’t worry too much. If you can limit yourself to a small, snack-size bag of potato chips once in a while, instead of eating a large bag every day, you’ll be fine.
