Gift(礼物) giving is one of the best ways to show our care for friends. But sometimes in China, we must be careful with art of gift giving.

●Never give our friend a clock in China. Because it is a sign of sadness and tears, and it has the same sound as the word "die" in Chinese. 

●The Chinese don't have the same lucky numbers as the westerners. For example, 6 is a good one in China. It shows that everything is OK with us. So gifts with NO 6 can bring people happiness. One of the unlucky number is 4. It gives people an idea of bad luck.

●Gift giving is often connected with colours in China. Chinese people like to use the colour red when they have something to celebrate because they think red means happiness and warmth. So gifts with the colour red are always welcome. However, white and black have something to do with sadness and death (死亡).

As time goes on, the idea is changing and the way of gift giving is also changing. In modern times, people often send short messages or e-mails to their friends as gifts during some important festivals.
